SHOWS THIS WEEK:

Did Jesus Go To Hell? The doctrine of Christ’s “descent” is confessed in the Apostles’s and Athanasian Creeds and celebrated by Eastern and Roman Catholic churches, but evangelical churches rarely give it much attention. Even where the Apostles’s Creed is recited many evangelicals leave out the clause, “he descended into hell/the dead.” So just what is the doctrine of Christ descending to the dead? On Monday, we'll interview Matt Emerson and discuss his book "He Descended to the Dead": An Evangelical Theology of Holy Saturday, winner of a 2019 TGC book award. From biblical foundations to historical context and pastoral implications, we'll discuss it all with Matt. |
Sorcery and Psychedelics: Ayahuasca
Ever heard of Ayahuasca? Ayahusaca is a sacred plant medicine used in ceremonies by indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest. And there are some crazy stories out there from people reporting spiritual experiences after taking Ayahuasca. You can find numerous testimonies of atheists and drug addicts experiencing God and coming to Christ after this experience - descriptions of another dimension that is 'more real than reality'.
In recent years, Ayahuasca has gained popularity in Western cultures, leading to the rise of Ayahuasca tourism and retreats - and even churches promoting its spiritual benefits. But is this something Christians should be experiencing? If the substance is bringing people to Christ, should churches be exploring it? Or is this something we should mark and stay away?
Join us Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. CDT as we explore the moral and biblical implications of Ayahuasca.

ASK YOUR QUESTIONS:
Have a theology question? Drop it here. While we can't guarantee we'll tackle every question, we'll dive into a couple each week. So, fire away and let's explore together!
Question from Marlene in the US: Does 1 Corinthians 14:3 exclude prophesies that predict future events or warn of coming persecution?
Answer: No, because the telling of the future can be encouraging, and the warning of any coming persecution can be consoling, especially for any suffering there might be, to know that God sees you, knows you, and will be with you. That despite what comes, God is in control. Sometimes God speaks to us especially when the path is going to be hard, so we can rely and know that this path, even though difficult, is the path God planned. Thus, a prophecy about the future or a warning provides encouragement, comfort and consolation.
1 Cor 14:3 ESV On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.
Question from Sheila in Montana: Have you ever had someone set free from something and then later on fall back into it and be worse than before? Their hope seems to diminish and they have a hard time believing that God can free them again, and there's a lot of shame. How do you help those in this situation? Thank you kindly.
Answer: Yes. Matthew 12:43-45 addresses this, which is why deliverance, discipleship and sanctification are complementary to each other and must go hand-in-hand. Our recent episode on Deliverance & Discipleship will help you.
Matthew 12:43-45 ESV 43 When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first.

Seven Spirits of God? Exploring the Mystery of the Seven SpiritsWe've all heard of the Holy Spirit as the third member of the Trinity. Did you know the books of Isaiah and Revelation also mention seven spirits of God? Are there seven spirits of God or just one Holy Spirit? Are these one and the same? Or, do the seven spirits describe different attributes of God's character? Join us Wednesday, April 17 as we examine Scripture to unravel this mystery and gain deeper insights into the nature of God and the Holy Spirit. |
