What Makes the Church "The Church"? #EcclesiologyOn Monday, we'll meet with theologian Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen and discuss his book "An Introduction to Ecclesiology." We'll chat with Kärkkäinen about the theological questions he poses about ecclesiology (the doctrine of the church). What is the church, and why are there so many diverse expressions of it? What are the major traditions and why do we have different traditions if we have one universal church? Kärkkäinen will share his thoughts about the major traditions, global perspectives, and key elements of the church's mission, governance, worship, and more. Join us in the Live Chat on Monday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m. CST/UTC-6. |
Solar Eclipses & The BibleAs the total solar eclipse over the US approaches on April 8, we'll examine what Scripture reveals about these celestial events. Are they a sign from God, harbingers of doom, or simply natural events? Is there a biblical meaning? Is this solar eclipse a sign of the End Times? Find out what the Bible actually says about solar eclipses. Join us for an intriguing discussion about solar eclipses and their significance in the Bible! |

Question from Colleen in Canada: I'm wondering how you feel about opening spiritual Gates over areas.
Answer: There are several verses about open heavens in the Bible, including verses about a door or window open to heaven. In each of these instances, God opens or closes the heavens to provide blessing. The key being God in His sovereignty opens the heavens. We would not recommend opening a spiritual gate over an area, which falls into gnosticism. The action we can take for opening heavens can be found in Malachi 3:10, which advises that we can test God by tithing and see that he will open the heavens with blessing.
Malachi 3:10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
Question from Kenneth in Texas: What is yall's view on the Armor of God? One of the ladies at our church encourages us to put on the armor of God every morning physically to protect ourselves from spiritual attacks. That teaching has never set well with me, but I do want to be obedient to Ephesians 6. Is this a practical passage of Scripture, and how should we approach it? Thank you!
Answer: The armor of God is a metaphor for daily walking in the manner Christ asks of us - the spiritual disciplines, fruit of the Spirit, and holiness. Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Faith, Salvation, the Word of God. It doesn’t hurt to say the Scripture daily if it helps to mentally prepare and focus you for walking in a holy manner, but the bigger picture is that walking as Christ does and living a holy life will help you withstand the enemy.
Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
