Knowing Jesus as King: Interview with Tara-Leigh Cobble

What does it really mean to follow Jesus as King? In this episode, we’re joined by Tara-Leigh Cobble, creator of The Bible Recap (20M+ downloads) and founder of D-Group, an international network of Bible studies helping believers dive deeper into Scripture.

Tara-Leigh brings her passion for Biblical literacy to help us explore the Gospel of Matthew and understand Jesus’s kingship in fresh, transformative ways. Drawing from her book “Knowing Jesus as King,” we’ll discover:

• How seeing Jesus as King changes our discipleship • Fresh insights from Matthew’s Gospel • Practical ways to deepen your relationship with Christ • Why biblical literacy matters for spiritual growth • How to move from knowledge to transformation

If you want to know Jesus more deeply, this conversation will teach you how to engage with Scripture in meaningful ways. Join us as we explore how following King Jesus leads to the abundant life He promised.

Retro Prophecy Review: Bob Jones, Kim Clement, and John Paul Jackson Unpacked

In this flash from the past, we’ll explore the prophetic words of Bob Jones, Kim Clement, and John Paul Jackson. We analyze their claims, from Bob Jones's "Billion Soul Harvest" to Kim Clement's "Trump Shall Be a Trumpet" and John Paul Jackson's "Perfect Storm." Do these prophecies hold up under scrutiny? Are they biblically sound, or do they miss the mark?

If you're curious about charismatic prophecies, their alignment with Scripture, and the lessons we can learn from their successes and failures, this episode is a must-watch.

Episode premieres Wednesday, December 18 at 4:00 p.m. CST / UTC-6!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Have a theology question? Drop it here. While we can't guarantee we'll tackle every question, we'll dive into one or two each week. So, fire away and let's explore together!

RJ from Virginia: We are told, (and I believe!) that Jesus is from the line of David. The question that I am wrestling with is that if he was born of the virgin Mary, how would he be from the line of David since Joseph was not the one to get Mary pregnant? Love the show! Thanks guys!

Answer: The Gospels of Matthew and Luke both include genealogies of Jesus, though neither explicitly traces His lineage through Mary. Matthew’s genealogy (Matthew 1:1-17) starts with Abraham and traces Jesus’ lineage through David and Solomon down to Joseph, Jesus’ legal (adoptive) father. This version emphasizes Jesus’s legal right to the throne of David through Joseph, adhering to Jewish customs of tracing lineage through the paternal line.

Luke’s genealogy (Luke 3:23-38) begins with Jesus and traces backward to Adam. While it also goes through David, it diverges from Matthew’s account after David, listing Nathan, another son of David, as the line through which Jesus descends. Luke introduces Joseph as “the son, as was supposed, of Heli.” Many scholars interpret this to mean Joseph was Heli’s son-in-law, making Heli Mary’s father, implying Luke’s genealogy reflects Mary’s lineage and presenting Jesus’ biological descent from David through Nathan, not Solomon.

Some attribute Luke’s genealogy to Mary because his Gospel often highlights the role of women, including Mary, in the narrative of Jesus’ birth and ministry. Tracing Mary’s lineage would show Jesus’s physical descent from David, fulfilling Old Testament prophecy (e.g., 2 Samuel 7:12-16). While early church tradition and some interpretations support this view, the text itself does not explicitly state this. Both genealogies ultimately affirm Jesus as a descendant of David, fulfilling Messianic prophecies, but the connection to Mary is inferred rather than directly stated.

___________

Connor from McGinnis: As Protestants rooted in historical Christianity, how should we view the second council of Nicea and the honorary veneration of icons, which includes saints?

Answer: An excellent question, and we hope to dive deeper into this subject in a future episode. In short, we should approach the Second Council of Nicea (787) and its declarations about icon veneration with significant caution. While often grouped with the “seven ecumenical councils,” Nicea II differs markedly from the first four councils in both authority and reception. The council’s mandate for icon veneration lacks clear New Testament support and contradicts the practice of the early church, which showed no evidence of such veneration in its first 300 years. It problematically elevated what was previously a devotional practice to the level of essential doctrine.

How to Hear God in Dreams & Visions: Interview with Tania Harris

Can God speak through dreams today? Throughout Scripture, dreams and visions were God’s most common way of communicating with His people. Yet many believers today quickly dismiss their dreams as mere products of late-night snacking.

Today we’re joined by Rev. Dr. Tania Harris, global director of God Conversations, to explore the biblical foundation of hearing God through dreams. Drawing from both theological research and practical ministry experience, Dr. Harris helps us navigate this often-misunderstood aspect of God’s communication.

Whether you’re curious about your own dreams or wanting to understand this spiritual gift better, join us for this balanced exploration of how God speaks through dreams and visions today.

2024 Annual Prophecy Review

As we close out 2024, it’s time for our annual examination of prophetic words released over our nation. In keeping with Paul’s instruction to “test everything” (1 Thess 5:21), we’re taking a careful look at specific prophecies from prominent voices in the prophetic movement.

We’ll examine prophecies from: • Chris Reed • Mario Murillo • Jeremiah Johnson

We’ll evaluate: • What was specifically prophesied for 2024 • What actually occurred • The importance of prophetic accountability • How to biblically test prophetic words • Lessons for the prophetic movement going forward

This isn’t about criticism or cynicism - it’s about encouraging our prophetic community to grow in maturity as we pursue both gifting and accountability. Join us for this important year-end review as we seek to honor both the gift of prophecy and the biblical mandate to “weigh carefully what is said” (1 Cor 14:29).
