Am I Really Saved? How to Have Assurance of Your Salvation While Being Sanctified

In this episode, we’ll explore the important topic of assurance in salvation and how it relates to the process of sanctification. What does it mean to have assurance of salvation? Why is it essential for believers? What are teachings that undermine this assurance and leave people in doubt?

Then, we'll discuss how sanctification is a lifelong process, meaning there will be trial and error - growth and correction - in every Christian walk. How can we remain confident in our salvation while also growing in holiness? Join us as we explore how to have assurance of salvation while walking through sanctification in the Christian life.

Tune in on Monday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. CDT / UTC-5!

Are Ghosts Real?

It’s that time of year when there is a heightened focus on ghost tours, paranormal activity, and even seances. So, we have to ask, "Are ghosts real?" What does the Bible say? How do ghosts fit into a Christian worldview?

We’ll discuss famous stories like the ghost of Samuel (1 Samuel 28) and also how Jesus tells His disciples He is not a ghost, saying, "A ghost does not have flesh and bones" in Luke 24:37-39 (inferring there might be ghosts?). Does the Bible consider these ghosts to be spirits of the deceased or demonic manifestations?

We'll also examine whether it's biblical to connect with ghosts or not. (Bet you already know the answer!) Tune in for a biblical breakdown of ghosts!

Join us Wednesday, October 16 at 4:00 p.m. CDT / UTC-5!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Have a theology question? Drop it here. While we can't guarantee we'll tackle every question, we'll dive into one or two each week. So, fire away and let's explore together!

Sissy from Illinois: Are Christians able to fall back into sin and is there redemption for Christians who seek to return to God? I’m thinking of Hebrews and wonder how it applies to rebellious Christians seeking to return in repentance.

I ask as a Christian who rebelled and wants to turn back, to grow deeper in my walk with Jesus, to pursue full submission to the Spirit.

Jessica from Tennessee: I question my salvation a lot, my husband (and others) say I wouldn’t be worried about it if I wasn’t saved. Is that true? Or is that supposed to be comforting?

Answer: Sissy and Jessica, we hear your concerns. Be sure to watch our upcoming Monday episode on “Am I Really Saved? How to Have Assurance of Your Salvation While Being Sanctified.”

___________

David from Los Angeles: When the Bible says “All are not prophets, are they?” The answer is understood to be “no.” Right?

So I want to understand, as a new continuationist, why is it that you guys also seem to believe that any believer can prophesy? Perhaps it means that all are not given the same positions of ministry in the church but your help on this would be appreciated. Thank you, love you guys, hope to meet you one day!

Answer: You are correct that in 1 Corinthians 12:29 Paul discusses the diversity of spiritual gifts within the body of Christ. He emphasizes that not everyone has the same gift, and each gift plays a unique and essential role in the church—indeed, not all will prophesy.

However, we would say that all believers can hear God's voice. In John 10:27, Jesus says, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." Our focus is on learning how God communicates personally with each of us to use our own God-given spiritual gifts.

While some are particularly gifted in prophecy—receiving specific messages from God for others—all believers can grow in recognizing how God communicates to them. This could be an internal nudge to pray for someone, a word of knowledge received during evangelism, or a prompting to invite someone over as an act of hospitality. This ability to hear God's voice often gets loosely thrown in to the prophetic bucket. We're saying that God still speaks (communicates) today, and as believers, we can learn to hear His voice (communication).

Hearing from God often involves paying attention to His "still, small voice" (1 Kings 19:12), which can be easy to dismiss if you're not attuned to how God communicates. As Job 33:14 says, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it." With time and discernment, we can learn to recognize when God is speaking to us and how the Holy Spirit is leading and guiding our lives.

All believers can and do hear God, and many of us will hear God for others. The expectation of the new Covenant according to Joel 2 and Isaiah 59:11 is that God's people will be a prophetic people.

Charismatics Discuss ESP: Interview with Matthew McGuire

We speak with Matthew McGuire, author of A Magical World: How the Bible Makes Sense of the Supernatural. We'll dive into a fascinating chapter from Magical World, exploring the concept of ESP (Extrasensory Perception). We’ll discuss what ESP is, how the world views it, and, more importantly, how the church should approach it. Is ESP a natural phenomenon or is it demonically influenced? We'll unpack its role in culture and examine it through a biblical lens, discerning the spiritual implications and how believers should respond to claims of supernatural perception. Tune in for a thought-provoking discussion on faith and the unseen realm!

Matthew McGuire received his education in Biblical Studies at Crandall University (New Brunswick, Canada) and New England Bible College & Seminary (Bangor, Maine). He is a graduate of the Bilingual Bible Program at El Instituto Bíblico Palabra de Vida (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
