Speaking in Faith or Happy Lies?
On Monday, we sit down with Christian apologist and author Melissa Dougherty to discuss her new book, Happy Lies: How a Movement You (Probably) Never Heard Of Shaped Our Self-Obsessed World.
Melissa will trace the roots of our culture's toxic subjectivity and relentless pursuit of happiness back to an influential 19th-century philosophy called New Thought—a movement that shaped much of today’s self-help culture and even infiltrated the church. As a former follower of New Thought teachings, Melissa brings a unique perspective, blending her personal journey with biblical insights and a touch of wit.
We’ll discuss:
The hidden dangers of New Thought philosophy and its modern manifestations.
How the "positive thought" movement hijacks Christian-sounding ideas and burdens believers.
Why our culture's obsession with self and "fake authenticity" undermines true redemption.
How the Christian worldview offers a life-giving alternative to the world's Happy Lies.
This episode promises to be eye-opening, equipping you to recognize and respond to deceptive ideologies with truth and grace. Don’t miss it!

Truth or Gossip? How to Navigate Allegations in the Church
In some of our recent episodes, we’ve addressed allegations of sin among notable pastors and Christian influencers, sparking an important question: Are we crossing the line into slander or gossip as we address these issues?
We’ve also observed pastors accused of wrongdoing using their sermons and platforms to label those discussing the allegations as agreeing with the "accuser of the brethren" or as gossipers spreading baseless claims.
The Bible, indeed, warns against the very real sins of slander and gossip.
Where is the biblical boundary between speaking truth and engaging in the sins of gossip or slander? How can we discern when we’re approaching these pitfalls? And how do we guard our hearts and tongues against falling into them?
In this episode, we turn to Scripture—our ultimate authority—to guide us in navigating these challenging situations. Together, we’ll explore how to communicate truth in a way that honors God and avoids sin.
Episode premieres on Wednesday, January 22 at 4:00 p.m. CST / UTC-6.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Have a theology question? Drop it here. While we can't guarantee we'll tackle every question, we'll dive into one or two each week. So, fire away and let's explore together!
Question from Ruben in Norway: How should we understand “anointing” in the New Covenant? Is it only corporate? Obviously, the NT shows us that there is individual gifting. But is it theologically correct to talk about a certain preacher’s (or worship leader’s etc.) anointing?
Answer: Hoping you saw this past week’s show on Anointing! If not, catch it here.
___________
Question from Rowan in United Kingdom: I recently listened to the episode on demonic objects. My parents who live in the same house as me are both Christians and they own some figurines from a trip to Egypt including a figurine of Anubis. How should I talk to them about it? I'm worried that if I tell them to get rid of it they'll think I'm being superstitious.
Answer: Your desire to honor your parents while also letting them know about possible demonic objects is commendable. First, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you in the discussion. To approach the conversation, you may want to ask them their opinions about the reality of demons and whether they think a demon could be connected to a physical object. When you bring up the items, start by acknowledging that your parents likely bought the figurines as souvenirs and don't know about the potential spiritual influences. You may suggest watching the episode on demonic objects together and discussing their thoughts.
Frame the conversation with love and gentleness, avoiding judgment. Instead of demanding they get rid of the figurines, suggest exploring what these objects represent and whether they align with your shared Christian faith. You could offer an alternative like replacing the figures with a photo of your parents in Egypt to help remember the trip. It’s also helpful to express that your concern comes from a place of wanting to honor God together. Consider offering to pray together for wisdom and guidance. Blessings to you!

DEMYSTIFYING THE DEMONIC: Understanding Spiritual Warfare with Dr. Clint Arnold
What did first-century believers actually understand about demonic forces? Join us for an illuminating conversation with Clint Arnold, PhD, Dean and Professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology, as we delve into the realities of spiritual warfare. In this episode, we’ll explore themes from Dr. Arnold’s book Powers of Darkness: Principalities & Powers in Paul’s Letters, unpacking what the Apostle Paul teaches about demonic forces, supernatural empowerment, and the role of magic in the first century.
Dr. Arnold sheds light on how first-century Greek, Roman, and Jewish beliefs intersect with the biblical worldview, demonstrating that the New Testament portrays principalities and powers as organized, personal beings defeated by Jesus at the cross and ultimately subdued at His return. We'll also discuss the implications for contemporary Christians, including practical guidance for standing firm against spiritual forces of evil.
As both a New Testament scholar and Dean of Talbot School of Theology, Dr. Arnold bridges the gap between academic research and practical application, helping us understand how to engage in spiritual warfare with biblical wisdom and historical insight. Whether you're seeking to better understand the spiritual battle described in Scripture or to engage thoughtfully with the challenges of modern occult practices, this episode is a must-watch for anyone desiring to navigate the unseen with biblical clarity.

What Is The Anointing & How Do You Get It?
In this episode, we explore the rich biblical theology of anointing, tracing its significance from the Old Testament to its contemporary understanding within the Church and its varied interpretations within charismatic circles. This episode unpacks significant biblical texts, such as Jesus’s declaration in Luke 4:18 and the use of anointing oil for healing in James 5:14, while examining the historical and theological development of the concept. Join us as we tackle questions like:
What does the Bible mean by “anointing”?
How did the early church practice anointing in connection with baptism and deliverance?
How does the charismatic movement interpret and sometimes redefine anointing?
We also discuss practical implications, such as the role of anointing in spiritual gifts and the importance of aligning modern practices with scriptural truth. Drawing from church history, biblical scholarship, and personal ministry experience, this episode provides a nuanced look at one of the most essential and often misunderstood aspects of Christian theology.
If you’re interested in understanding how anointing relates to the power of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of healing and prophecy, or the life of Jesus as the Anointed One (Acts 10:38), this episode is for you.
